As Scitex’s operation continues to expand, after recently commencing in Australia, we are super excited to welcome Maria McCarthy to our community as our new Principal Consultant here in NZ.
Based in the Waikato, and servicing all parts of NZ, Maria has a wealth of experience in the NZ employment landscape, having recruited here for the last 12 years, after an extensive career in the UK.
With a strong background recruiting for Fonterra’s many operational sites, followed by some great agency experience, Maria’s networks across dairy, food, engineering, infrastructure, manufacturing and operations are extensive, and we’re thrilled to have her onboard.
We’re super excited that Maria has chosen to work with us here at Scitex, and upon getting underway this week, we fired a few questions at her to get to know her a little more:
What’s your favourite aspect of New Zealand?
The weather! Coming from England, I feel very fortunate to live in NZ with such a great climate and stunning beaches. I love the laid-back culture and the people here.
What has been a highlight of your career to date?
I’ve been fortunate to have had many highlights. One of which was whilst working with the UK Police for a decade, I was the first ever non-Police Officer to undertake a Prolific Offender Manager role. This role really honed in my interview skills, conducting prison and cell interviews at all hours with crazy distractions and constraints! By capturing and sharing intelligence, I helped to reduce crime, I would then find new opportunities and jobs to rehabilitate them upon prison release.. this is where my love for interviewing and recruitment was cemented, albeit not in the traditional sense! Turning someone’s life around for the better, proved to be the best reward.
What motivated you to join Scitex?
Having proven success working across the specialisms that Scitex offers, Scitex was an obvious choice for me. I love working across these industries and feel very well connected. I’m fortunate to have worked with some of the team in the past, so I knew that we’d work well together again.
What are your goals for this year?
I am really looking forward to bringing my expertise to Scitex and adding value to such a high performing team. It’s great to be part of such a positive team environment and working collaboratively to help candidates and clients alike.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love to travel as much as I can! I like to discover new places, as well as returning to Europe when I can, to re-connect with loved ones. You can often find me hanging out with friends and family, usually catching up over a good wine!
