Welcome Ali Williams – founding Senior Consultant for the Waikato!

With our mission to impact 1 million lives for the better, engineering better Mondays just got even easier in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty.

We are hugely excited to announce Ali Williams has joined our team as senior consultant for the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region, and brings a great deal of recruitment experience to our team.  No doubt, she will be welcomed by our wider Waikato scientific and technical community, and being our “boots on the ground”, Ali will provide well-needed support to our fabulous clients and candidates in the region.

Having worked in recruitment for more than 20 years, Ali has worked in both large and boutique agencies, and is known for her candid communication style, and ability to counsel and challenge her candidates on their career progression and next steps. Her passion for understanding NZ industry is evident, and she can’t wait to get amongst a new, but no so unfamiliar industry, and to enable our growth in the wider region.

You can read more about Ali’s background here or connect with Ali on LinkedIn here.

We are stoked to have Ali in the team, and naturally we wouldn’t let her get away in her first week without throwing a few questions her way:

What excites you about Scitex?
Being part of an organisation whose values mirror my own with regards to integrity, authenticity and ethics.

What’s your Vision for Scitex in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty?
To enable the Technical and Scientific expertise currently offered to our Auckland clients by Scitex to be more readily available to a region which has become an integral part of New Zealand Business in so many sectors.

Where did your fascination with science & technology come from?
I’ve never been one to sit in the one sector and recruit the same old roles day after day. A new niche is great for the brain and energy levels and I’m a great believer in continually developing as a Recruitment Professional. There are so many exciting things happening in the Science and Technology sector in New Zealand, it’s hard not to want to be a part of it.

We hear you’re a bit of a baking enthusiast? Where did that begin?
As a kid, Dad and I used to ice the ‘Christmas Cakes’ and he would only make it to the Almond paste before his patience wore thin so I was left to finish the job. My childhood dream was to become a copywriter, so I enjoy using my creative streak to market a ‘side hustle’. I actually find the ‘baking’ part, pretty tedious … but let me loose with a full piping bag, a freshly iced blank cake or cookie as a canvas and I really am in my happy place. Constantly improving my social media knowledge keeps me in the loop and as a sales personality, I enjoy thinking outside the box to engage a market. Whether you are marketing people or cookies, you’re still marketing.

What its been like to join a new business remotely?
Not much different from joining it physically really. Technology is a wonderful thing when it’s working and it’s a bonus only having to worry about the top half of your person, rather than also finding pants to fit! Just as well gumboots are banned indoors at our place.
