Our client, a world leader in food processing and packaging solutions based in Hamilton, are seeking a proactive, self-starting engineer with exceptional communication skills and expertise in materials handling to join their dynamic powder processing team in Hamilton.

About the Role:

This senior-level role, ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in dairy processing with powder experience, will play a crucial role in working on and delivering cutting-edge powder processing projects, within the dairy, juice, and soft drink industries, leveraging your expertise in processing or mechanical processing.

You will be responsible for drafting and design, collaborating with clients to develop concept designs and budget estimates, and creating detailed mechanical engineering designs such as P&IDs, fabrication, layout, and pipework drawings. Additionally, you’ll have hands-on involvement in project installation and commissioning, with significant travel opportunities – up to two weeks at a time, primarily to the USA. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop powder processing systems, focusing on dairy, juice, and soft drink industries.
  • Create and refine concept designs, ensuring feasibility and alignment with client requirements.
  • Prepare budget estimates and manage cost considerations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Produce detailed mechanical engineering designs, including P&IDs, fabrication, layout, and pipework drawings.
  • Oversee project installation and commissioning, ensuring compliance with technical standards.
  • Provide hands-on support during project implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Write and maintain functional specifications for process equipment and systems.
  • Size and select flow elements such as pumps, valves, and pneumatic transport lines.
  • Utilize software tools (AutoCAD 2D/3D, Inventor, MS Office) for design and project management.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry standards and process technology advancements.
  • Work autonomously while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Travel internationally (primarily to the USA) for up to two weeks at a time to support project execution.

Key Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of proven mechanical engineering experience in a dairy/powder processing industry.
  • Mechanical or Process Engineering Degree or Diploma (NZCE).
  • Hands-on experience in process equipment design, project execution, and commissioning.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards, process technology, and relevant software tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for up to two weeks at a time.
