Principal Product Development Chemist

We are seeking a talented and experienced Principal Product Development Chemist to join our client’s innovative technical team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead cutting-edge product development projects and play a pivotal role in driving formulation excellence.

In this role, you will work closely with the Technical Manager to manage and deliver critical product development objectives. With your deep knowledge of formulation chemistry, you will oversee a team of Product Development Chemists and guide them through the entire New Product Development (NPD) process – from concept to commercialisation.

Your expertise in resin systems, additives, and marine coating formulations will be key in achieving successful product launches. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the formulation and optimization of marine coatings using advanced resin systems and additives.
• Manage lab-scale development, performance testing, and production scale-up to achieve commercial outcomes.
• Prioritise technical objectives, allocate resources, and track milestones in partnership with the Technical Manager.
• Collaborate with suppliers to source and evaluate new raw materials.
• Mentor and guide the team of Product Development Chemists, encouraging innovation and technical growth.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in formulation strategies and lab processes.

Skills and Experience:

• A Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field.
• 10+ years’ experience in the chemical industry with a strong background in coatings chemistry.
• Proven expertise in formulation development, resin systems, and crosslinking mechanisms.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities.
