Plant Engineer

:Are you an experienced engineer with a background in FMCG? Are you looking for a new opportunity with a New Zealand-owned business offering a night shift position? If so, we have the perfect role for you!
Our client, a well-established food manufacturer based in Mount Wellington, has been serving New Zealand with a wide range of food products for over 30 years. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Plant Engineer to maintain production equipment and be the first point of contact for breakdowns during the night shift.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain plant equipment to ensure smooth operation.
  • Manage engineering requirements for the night shift to meet production plans.
  • Collaborate with the production team to troubleshoot and resolve breakdowns.
  • Coach the production team on preventing breakdowns and improving performance.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and health and safety guidelines.
  • Develop and implement strategies to prevent plant breakdowns.
  • Ensure staff and contractors are aware of health and safety responsibilities.
  • Maintain high standards of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and housekeeping.
  • Coordinate with production and planning teams to ensure timely maintenance.
  • Assist with staff training on plant processes.
  • Conduct comprehensive shift handovers with engineering and production teams.

The Person:
We are looking for a passionate self-starter who as equally creative. as they are practical to ensure accuracy and quality of deliverables. This role requires someone who is able to work very independently as the only engineer on shift however good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with the day shift team is also key.
Also required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is ideal, but a trade qualification or equivalent tertiary education is sufficient.
  • Demonstrable ability to read engineering drawings and manuals.
  • Experience working with Steam processes, pneumatic systems and manufacturing/packaging equipment required.
  • Experience interacting with PLC’s as well as welding and machining experience required.
  • Maintenance management system experience required with experience using Mex an advantage.
  • Food manufacturing industry, 2 – 3 years experience minimum, ideally in the FMCG food production industry.

The hours of work for this position are Sunday 7.00pm to 05.30am with Monday to Thursday shifts running  9.00pm – 5.30 am.
